Football Manager 2018: The Man Utd “Challenge” Part 8

February was a decent month, we beat Sevilla at home in the 1st leg of the last 16 of the Champions League and we maintained top spot in the league.

Unfortunately, Wenger beat us to the manager of the month award, probably because his team conceded fewer goals. It’s ok he can have it, I’d rather have 1st place in the league.

Z Player of the monthZ young POTM

It was a good month for some of our players as well, with Mkhitaryan winning player of the month, just ahead of Inaki Williams. Rashford also won the young player of the month so good times. A big game against Liverpool to kick off the month hopefully we can batter them.

Z Vs Liverpool

Not quite the battering I wanted, it would have been if we had taken our chances. Inaki Williams being the main culprit, he created a lot as well as having a lot of chances, he even got Man Of the Match. It was Liverpool who went ahead though, Firmino collected a pass from Coutinho who then fired past De Gea at his near post. Again, a goal that the keeper should not be conceding. It took 61 minutes to score our goal, Williams running down the right puts in a cross from deep and it was a brilliant header from the substitute Lukaku that made it 1-1. Pogba was given a straight red 5 minutes later for a terrible tackle on… a Liverpool person, no complaints. Even though we went down to 10 we still created chances and should have won the game.

Z Vs Brighton

Brighton up next and it was a very comfortable 2-0 win, Inaki Williams gave us the lead after the ball was booted against Rashford and it fell to him to just tap in. Rashford was given the assist for it despite knowing nothing about it. Following a cleared corner, Matic headed down for Juan Mata who’s strike was deflected beyond Mathew Ryan for 2-0. Matic went off injured late on, hopefully, it won’t be too bad.

Z Matic Inj

well… that’s pretty bad, why are players injuring their hips after kicking the ball. That’s exactly what happened to Ibra, these guys aren’t that old for this to be happening.

Z Vs Sevilla

The 2nd leg of our Champions League tie was made more difficult by us and our poor defensive display. After 16 minutes we were 2-0 down and on our way out because of away goals. Perhaps we were 2 down because Phil Jones thought he was playing up front, at least he made up for it by scoring twice in 4 minutes. Mata’s corner was deflected into Jones’ path and he smashed home to get his first of the evening. Then Mata’s free kick was flicked on by Lindelof for Jones to volley in to equalize. Sevilla would go on to win the game after a well worked move was finished off by Ruidiaz, but it wasn’t enough for Sevilla to go through. Into the next round we go with the draw coming right after the game.

PSG was probably the team we wanted considering who’s left in the tournament.

Z Vs Everton

We go away to Everton next and they’re not sitting pretty in the relegation zone, they didn’t even have shot on target all game while we again failed to take some clear cut chances of our own. Both of goals essentially came from the penalty spot, Lukaku took the first one and it hit the post then the unfortunate Robles to go in for an own goal. Martial took the 2nd pen and converted comfortably.

Z Vs Palace

A bore draw against an extremely defensive Crystal Palace side, neither team created any real chances. A draw means our lead at the top is cut to 2 points and Crystal Palace remain in 4th place. Yep, Roy Hodgson’s Palace side are in 4th, who says this game isn’t realistic.

Z League Table

Man City have managed to climb the table to 6th place while Tottenham now occupies 10th. Everton are bottom of the league 7 points off safety with 7 games to play, they have 2 games in hand for some reason. Last part I said I wanted 10 points and we only managed 8, at least we keep top spot as it becomes squeaky bum time.

Z Schedule

An extremely big game approaches, the end of the month see us go up against 2nd place Arsenal. Assuming we are still top going into that game it could be we win the league or bottle it. Again I will be happy with 7 points in the league, as for the Champions League I’m not too bothered. We’ve made it to the quarters and there are some great left in it so if our run end against PSG then I won’t be too upset. Stay Tuned.
